2011 — Year of The Emperor

In 2011 we enter the Year of the Emperor according to tarot archetypes and numerology. In the tarot the Emperor is seen as a bit of a fuddy-duddy — set in his ways and obsessed with money, power and control — and not much fun.

However, I believe the stabilizing energy of the Emperor is a welcome change after the ever-changing currents of the past two years. Although we are not quite out of the global recession, the free fall is over. Laying the foundation for future generations and our legacy is coming to the forefront of our collective consciousness.

As a society we will turn our attention from individual gain to long-term economic growth and stability for all. Invest in your future by evaluating your spending patterns, tackling debt, refinancing, saving, donating to good causes and making all necessary changes to build sustainable wealth well into your old age.

The Emperor’s ambition translates into your work life as well with opportunities for career advancement. This is the year to secure higher pay, better benefits and job security. If you are a business owner, revise your business plan to prepare for the economic upturn over the next five years.

Psychologically the Emperor reminds us to set healthy boundaries in our relationships. Setting clear and fair boundaries becomes crucial to your sense of self worth and respect. Put energy into relationships that are stable and support you being all you want to be.

On the style front, retro is in with classic fashion and design making a comeback. Invest in pieces with classic, clean lines in subdued neutrals, such as navy, grays and camel, that will last for several seasons to come.

Overall, the Emperor year offers an opportunity to ground, center, and focus on what you wish to build in this lifetime. As you contemplate your resolutions and intentions for 2011, keep your long-term goals and ambition in mind.

Revisioning the Hermit Card

In preparation for an upcoming workshop I’m co-facilitating on making collage of your tarot year and soul card, I have been making collages of a few of the Major Arcana. Here is my take on the Hermit card.

Personally the Hermit card has always appeared in readings when I need to seek my own truth, listen to my own knowing and not be influenced by external pressures. This search requires being aware of how my past experiences and learnings have brought me to this present moment as I move forward in my life.

I was drawn to the image of this women climbing stairs as she has a spring in her step. She glances backwards at the path she has climbed but does not linger on past actions or inactions. Instead she continues on her journey with a faint smile and carrying sustenance in her basket, in lieu of the traditional lantern and staff.  I love the sassiness as she looks over her shoulder and keeps on her path.

I also like the rich foliage of bordering the path ahead as a symbol of abundance being assured as we seek our own truth.
