Freshlyground

I am still all abuzz this morning from seeing Freshlyground, my favorite band from my homeland, play last night at a small club in San Francisco.

It’s always complete treat to bump up against anything South African in the Bay Area, let alone music of this caliber!

They opened the show with the catchy When the Fire is Low.

I loved dancing with my sweetie to South African tunes, surrounded by a diverse mix of South Africans — and a few enthusiastic Americans — singing along.

At one point I felt I was right back in Cape Town but looked up to catch a glimpse of a San Francisco MUNI bus ride by.

It was a moment of satisfying integration of my inner and outer worlds.

For this show Freshlyground played a mix of their latest songs and a few old favorites.  The only one that was sorely missing for me was Pot Belly — an anthem to loving your body and being open to love.

I left the show invigorated with energy from home and, at the same time, felt pangs of homesickness.

Some days I really wish home was not a pricey 24hr+ flights away.

Please share, with love:
